You might have noticed that I have shifted some of my attention in my business away from nursery prints, to more general art prints about Hong Kong. I started this range of prints to be a part of my nursery range, to overhaul my 'City Lights' range. What I found was that these prints were successful, and opened my target audience up from mums, to people who live in or just love Hong Kong.
I grew up in Hong Kong so I have found that I feel very nostalgic and closer to Hong Kong as I am creating this work. The ultimate compliment is when orders come in from HK because that's how I know this range is successful. If people who live in HK believe that I've captured its energy in my work, I can't ask for anything more.
I lived in HK until I was 18, my parents are still there and I (up until recently) used to travel back every year. My upbringing shaped my visual aesthetic and my design style. It shaped by work ethic and my perception of success. Now that I live in Cardiff, Wales, and I'm married, with a little boy, I suddenly feel closer to the city I grew up in since I started this work.
For all of you that are here for my nursery work, that will still carry on. I am happy to pursue both avenues, as long as you are happy to see them. As a small business I must be dynamic and grow organically. I wouldn't be surprised if this time next year I developed another strand to be business.
